Using the computer system provided, carry out the following routine maintenance:
• Create a file structure under user as follows
A folder labelled with your name and within this folder create 3 folders labelled Home, Work and Study
• Configure the operating system to perform the following:
• back-up procedures
• automatic scheduling and deletion of unwanted data
• archiving
• defragmentation
• deleting temporary files
• Cleaning keyboard, mouse, display screen of the computer provided
• replacing consumables printer paper in the printer provided
• replacing the damaged mouse

He did it in IV6; he deleted unwanted data and temporary files, archived files and made a back up file.
He then defragmented the computer to speed it up. He created a folder labelled with his name and then created 3 more folders within that folder labelled home, work and study.

1.       software applications open and work as intended. I will open up Photoshop to see if any issues occur.
To open Photoshop without any issues.

2.       default folder settings are correct. I will open a folder containing word documents.

When i opened the folders they opened to the correct place very quickly this shows the folders settings are correct. 
There is no action required because it worked correctly.
3.       desktop shortcuts go to the right place. I will open the Google chrome shortcut which should take me to the Google homepage.
The shortcuts will be displayed on the desktop and when they are opened, they should take me to the correct place. 
When i opened the desktop short cut called pictures it took me to the file pictures on my computer so this worked well.
It worked well so i did not need any actions for this.
4.       the correct device drivers are installed. I will plug in a keyboard and mouse. 
It should allow me to use the correct external devices for the drivers.
I was able to use the device.
No action was needed.
5.       the correct paper sizes are set for printing. I will print out an A4 size document.
I expect to print an A4 sheet of paper.
It printed an A4 sheet.

6.       menu options work as intended. I will open the start menu and open a program from there.
I should be able to open any program from the start menu without fault or error.
No issues occurred and i was able to open any program from the menu.

7.       the correct date and time are set. I will compare the time and date to my watch and phone.

P5 set up a standalone computer system, installing hardware and software components [SM3]

For P5, learners must install at least one hardware and one software component in a stand-alone system.
This is best evidenced with a witness statement or observation record and screen shots. Learners must use suitable safety equipment/tools and pay due regard to health and safety issues.

Describe how your peer achieved the above criteria; explain where you witnessed the activity.

He did the first four activities in IV5 during the lesson on the 9th may. The monitor, keyboard and mouse were connected through the usb ports. The graphics card had to be behind the VGA input to connect properly. Installing MS office 2003 and security essentials was a simple task. After this, he created a user account by opening the control panel and then selecting user accounts.
